Intertrust Launches Patent Licensing Program for OMA and Marlin Devices
Sunnyvale, CA, October 2 , 2007 – Intertrust Technologies today announced a patent licensing program for Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) and Marlin Digital Rights Management (DRM) based consumer devices and software.
The new program provides coverage to patents from Intertrust, Philips, and Sony for use with OMA and/or Marlin devices, including mobile phones, consumer electronics devices, and personal computers for €0.25 per unit. Distributors of PC software applications with OMA and/or Marlin functionality are also entitled to an annual cap of €400,000 on the €0.25 per unit royalty. Furthermore, licensees who join the program before December 31, 2007, will enjoy a royalty holiday through July 1, 2008. Prospective licensees may obtain additional information on this program, including specific terms and conditions from: www.intertrust.com/licensing/oma_marlin_devices.html.
"As more service-enabled consumer devices enter the market, our goal is to facilitate the decision to use open DRM standards for consumer media distribution," said Talal Shamoon, chief executive officer of Intertrust. "Our device licensing program complements our service provider licensing program, thereby providing the market with a convenient end-to-end licensing option to three fundamental patent portfolios."
Intertrust has been an industry leader in promoting open standards for DRM in the consumer space. The company is a co-founder of Marlin DRM and an active member of OMA. Intertrust and its partners provide specifications and software developer kits for Marlin technologies through the Marlin Developer Community at www.marlin-community.com.
