Steve gets content from many sources… from pay TV, the internet, and through his mobile service. Last night, Steve was busy preparing for his business trip and didn’t get to watch his favorite payTV show. Since the show is on a premium channel, his service will let him record a copy, but only if he watches it on his own playback devices. Steve’s recorder is already a member of a device group he calls “My Gadgets”. His recording can be used on any of these devices. Before he leaves on his trip, he pulls a copy of his show over to whatever devices he’d like. While waiting to check in for his flight, he catches a bit of his show on his mobile, and later he finishes watching it on his laptop. Steve also subscribes to a sports highlight service for his favorite sports teams through his mobile provider. Just before getting off the plane, a new edition of “My Sports Update” arrives on his phone. While waiting for his connection, he transfers a copy to his laptop to watch. Since his device group “My Gadgets” is already linked to his user identity, the file “just works” on both devices – no hassle. Regardless of how he received them, Steve’s media files “just work” on all of his devices. Since it’s so easy to move around, he doesn’t even realize the content is “protected”.
