Intertrust’s Wasabi™ Marlin Client SDK v.1.3 supports MPEG-DASH multi-screen streaming
Sunnyvale, CA., February 29, 2012 – Recognizing the growing demand for a standards-based streaming technology for Over the top (OTT) content delivery, Intertrust today announced a new version of its Wasabi™ Marlin Client SDK that supports MPEG-DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP).
MPEG-DASH is a unified standard for streaming multimedia content over the Internet from the Moving Picture Expert Group. The new MPEG DASH specification allows any service to be available on any connected device. As a result, content publishers, don’t have to re-encode or repurpose their streams to reach multiple screens; instead, they can produce a single set of files that will play on any device that is compatible with DASH.
Intertrust’s Wasabi Marlin Client SDK v.1.3, available immediately, is a complete Software Development Kit (SDK) for developing media applications based on the Marlin DRM standard. Wasabi allows quick and efficient deployments based on Marlin DRM on desktop (PC and Mac), mobile (iOS and Android), and embedded systems (set top box and connected TV), with support for MPEG DASH and Common Encryption on all those platforms.
“The connected TV and STB market today is highly fragmented, with each manufacturer developing its own connected platform,” said Gilles Boccon-Gibod, SVP, Technology and Chief Architect at Intertrust. “With the release of the MPEG-DASH specification, there is now a common adaptive streaming technology for content publishers and broadcasters. The HbbTV 1.5 specification includes support for MPEG-DASH and a DRM. In France, the HD Forum, an industry group of broadcasters and CE manufacturers, has taken steps towards reducing the market fragmentation by developing a common platform built on the HbbTV 1.5 specification with support for Marlin DRM.”
Wasabi v.1.3 also supports secure playback via the HTML5 video tag when running in a custom version of the Chromium embedded browser. This allows Wasabi to build HTML/Javascript players that can run in any application that wraps this custom embedded Chromium browser.
