Pioneer's SyncTV and Intertrust Enter Technology and Licensing Partnership
San Jose and Sunnyvale, CA, February 26, 2008 – SyncTV, Inc., a subsidiary of Pioneer Research Center USA, Inc., and Intertrust Technologies Corporation today announced the deployment of Marlin DRM in SyncTV's TV download service.
SyncTV has taken a license for Marlin devices and services as part of the OMA/Marlin licensing program that Intertrust launched in October 2007.
Intertrust and SyncTV are now collaborating closely on the development of the DRM components of the SyncTV application, which uses Intertrust's Marlin Client Software Development Kit, known as “Sushi.” Sushi is available from Intertrust or the Marlin Developer Community Source Program (www.marlin-community.com).
SyncTV is an 'a la carte' TV download service that launched in private beta in November 2007. The service offers premium content with flexible playback on Windows PCs, Macs, and Linux PCs, with more playback options planned for the future. The service allows users to download entire seasons of home-theater quality TV shows at low monthly fees.
SyncTV built its service using open standards for all its communications protocols and data formats, including Marlin DRM. “Open standards are critical to the success of SyncTV,” said John Gildred, president of SyncTV. “After extensive market research, we decided that Marlin DRM provides the best blend of advanced user friendly functionality, cross platform support and openness.”
“SyncTV is an elegant and consumer-friendly Internet video service,” said Talal Shamoon, chief executive officer of Intertrust. “It is a fine example of the transparency of Marlin DRM. We are pleased to enable exciting new services like this with our inventions and reference technologies.”
