Intertrust Announces Patent Licensing Program for OMA and Marlin Services
Program receives endorsement from major mobile operators and GSM Association
Sunnyvale, February 9, 2007 - Intertrust Technologies today announced a patent licensing program for Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) and Marlin DRM services. The program provides a license to all patents from Intertrust, Philips and Sony for use with OMA and/or Marlin services for a single price. In a parallel communiqué, the licensing initiative was welcomed by the GSM Association, the trade association representing over 700 mobile network operators globally, as a positive step towards enabling the adoption of open standards for mobile DRM.
Network operators, service providers and/or technology vendors providing solutions to network operators, may take a license from this program. The program provides prospective OMA and/or Marlin DRM service licensees with two options:
- Active Subscriber Domain License: €0.09 per Active Subscriber Domain per year. An Active Subscriber Domain is an individual activated service provider account tracked via an OMA or Marlin unique domain ID.
- Total Subscriber License: €0.015 per Subscriber per year in 2007 to €0.030 in 2016 per Subscriber per year, calculated against the total Subscriber population of a service provider or network operator.
“We are pleased to launch a program that provides a comprehensive license to three major patent portfolios that enable the market for open standards in digital rights management,” said Talal Shamoon, CEO of Intertrust. “This program fundamentally facilitates the adoption of OMA and Marlin and paves the way to major adoption of these technologies.”
The program applies to current versions and future evolutions of Marlin and OMA. Further, the program provides additional incentives for early adopter licensees. Active Subscriber Domain licensees may transition to the Total Subscriber License option at any time during the first three years by activating a transition option.
