At Intertrust, we’re both honored and, well, tickled pink that the judges for the TV Connect Awards awarded our Kiora offline content delivery platform with their prestigious “Best OTT Platform Service” award. By the way, our ExpressPlay CA card-less Conditional Access System was also a finalist for “Excellence in Content Protection” award. .
The TV Connect Awards are awarded each year in conjunction with the TV Connect event held in London. We’re particularly excited that Kiora was selected this year since it’s a product that ably addresses a hole in the OTT (over-the-top) video market, namely delivering protected video in locations where viewers may not have ready access to broadband connections. This is more common than you might think. These locations range from in-vehicle situations such as cars and trains to developing cities to rural villages to places like airports where the available public Wi-Fi might not support full HD streaming.
Kiora addresses this market with an elegant solution that is easy for customers to install and run and for consumers to use. On the backend is Kiora’s cloud platform that manages the curation, delivery, monetization, etc. of content to be delivered. At the front end are a range of content caching and delivery devices called ContentHotspots that either integrate into existing Wi-Fi hotspots or use their embedded radios to create a Wi-Fi hotspot. A customer just needs to install a ContentHotspot, configure it with our tools, and the ContentHotspot syncs up with the cloud platform to download and curate the content to be delivered when an appropriate broadband connection is available. Consumers then just use their favorite portable device to connect to the ContentHotspot over the high-bandwidth local Wi-Fi connection and voila!, they can start enjoying high-quality video at their leisure.
We’re thrilled that the judges have also recognized and appreciated Kiora’s potential. Also, having it acknowledged is rewarding and motivating to everyone in our organization.
