Podcast: Twilio Discusses the Importance of a No-Shenanigans Approach to Privacy for the One-Year Anniversary of the GDPR

In episode 6 of Tech Lightning Rounds, Beth Kindig interviews privacy experts to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) enacted by the European Union on May 25th, 2018. Interviews are held in “lightning round” format, which are rapid interviews with tech experts for immediate depth on each topic.

Beth Kindig interviews Robin Andruss, Director of Privacy at Twilio, who discusses the importance of having a no-shenanigans approach to privacy. Andruss points out that having one set of privacy standards globally, whether your customers are located in the European Union or not, is essential to doing privacy right.

As Andruss explains, Twilio has “binding corporate rules” which enforces a high standard of privacy by working with a law firm or consultancy to have the rules approved by a Data Protection Authority in the EU. Because Andruss works in privacy, Beth also asks what her personal preferences are in regards to data when she is online, and how concerned she is as a user of technology.
