Intertrust Home(™) is an application toolkit that provides a single software stack allowing data operations,IoT device authentication, and command operations to work as one, regardless of cloud or device infrastructure. The toolkit enables the development of multiparty trusted and interoperable smart home data ecosystems to support new, useful, and differentiated smart home applications.

Intertrust Home combines the features of several Intertrust products namely:

Intertrust Platform XPN – XPN allows trusted device and data operations from the IoT device to cloud and back, persistently protecting data and authorization traffic while at rest, in processing and in transit. XPN also enforces security policy and authentication at the endpoint, including IoT devices, set tops, gateways and smart TVs. One benefit of XPN is it allows companies to procure secure hardware enabled IoT devices from most any manufacturer for use in their ecosystems.

Advanced Data Federation and Governance Capabilities – Leveraging Intertrust Platform, companies providing services and connected devices to the home can build trusted data-driven partnerships with their partners, regardless of which underlying data technologies and clouds they use. Intertrust Home also has features to ensure compliance with privacy and other data-related regulations.

ExpressPlay Multi-DRM and XCA Conditional Access – Home network operators with current media services or those who wish to add them can use ExpressPlay Multi-DRM, the world’s most deployed Digital Rights Management (DRM) system. XCA Conditional Access, a converged DRM system supported by a growing number of smart TVs, including LG, Sony, Vestel, HiSense and others, is also included as an option.

Intertrust Home is designed to be used for home service providers, such as network operators, to create new multiparty data-driven applications. Here are examples of potential partnerships:

• Electrical utilities are increasingly turning to Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) and other digital solutions to balance grids and increase the usage of renewable power. However, quite often it is difficult for utilities to access the home energy data they need for these solutions. A network operator who has implemented Intertrust Home to provide multiple device home IoT based services for their subscribers can use Home to privately federate data with utilities to create a VPP that both saves energy for the consumer and reduces electricity demand for the utility.
• Insurance companies can offer their customers discounts on their home insurance through the use of data from sensors in the home such as water leak detectors. Network operators can work with insurance company partners to offer their subscribers discounted home insurance rates as well as develop Smart TV-based apps that would show the status of these sensors.
• The COVID-19 pandemic has fostered a shift in more in-home health services, assisted by a growing number of IoT devices. Network operators can collaborate with in-home health service providers to privately federate data from health related IoT devices with other IoT devices to give consumers a better data-informed lifestyle-based health care service.

Intertrust Home is not a smart home automation tool nor is it a home IoT device security solution. Intertrust Home is an application toolkit focused on interoperable and secure authentication of home IoT devices, persistent protection of data as it travels from the device to the cloud and back, and trusted, private federation of data between multiple partners. Intertrust Home also includes options for video content protection. With a consistent focus on trusted data collaboration, Intertrust Home is a unique offering in the market.

Matter is an IP-based connectivity protocol. Intertrust Home requires an IP stack on the device, but otherwise it is connectivity agnostic and works over any network type be it Zigbee, Zwave, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
